J. Robert Medlin is a senior managing director in FTI’s Corporate Finance practice and is based in Dallas. Mr. Medlin has more than 32 years of experience specializing in interim management; corporate finance; mergers and acquisition consulting; business regeneration, turnaround consulting and crisis management; restructuring and bankruptcy consulting; litigation support services; investigative accounting services; and financial, accounting and tax consulting.

Mr. Medlin served as the acting executive vice president and chief financial officer of Intelsat, Ltd., a leading provider of fixed satellite services with more than $2 billion in annual revenues. Mr. Medlin oversaw all the financial related functions of Intelsat and its subsidiaries. During his tenure, Intelsat entered into a merger agreement with PanAmSat to acquire all of its outstanding shares for approximately $3.2 billion.

Mr. Medlin served as the chief restructuring officer of Reichmann Petroleum Corp., a privately-held oil and gas operator, where he directed operating activities to improve liquidity and managed communications with creditors. Mr. Medlin’s efforts were focused on implementing a short-term plan to meet cash obligations and analyzing available options to restructure.

Mr. Medlin has served as an expert witness on a number of issues, including cash collateral, DIP financing, collateral valuation, enterprise valuation, plan feasibility, preference and fraudulent conveyance actions, substantive consolidation, claims estimations, environment damages and damage/lost profit analysis related to copyright infringement, tortuous interference, breach of contract, partnership dispute, wrongful termination, personal injury and wrongful death.

Mr. Medlin’s experience encompasses a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, financial services, distribution, retail, transportation, energy and construction (electric utilities, telecommunications, manufacturing, casino and agriculture, including farm cooperatives).

Mr. Medlin has represented both creditors and debtors in formal bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. Some of his notable public engagements include Reichmann Petroleum Corp., Intelsat, Ltd., Bag n Baggage, Braun’s Fashions, CompuAdd, Encompass, Enron, General Wireless, Eljer Industries, Pillowtex, Rubus Realty, Sun Healthcare, Zale Corp., El Paso Electric Company, Greyhound Corp., Harvest Foods, Lomas Financial, Minorplanet, Promedco, Sunrise Energy, TecNet, TWA and U.S. One Communications (creditors and committees), and InverWorld, I.G. Services, and LHH Partnerships (trustee and receiverships).

Prior to joining FTI in 2002, Mr. Medlin was a partner and southwest regional leader of the U.S. division of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Business Recovery Services practice.

Mr. Medlin holds a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Georgia. He is certified public accountant (CPA), certified insolvency reorganization accountant and certified turnaround professional. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Alabama Society of CPAs and the Texas Society of CPAs. Mr. Medlin serves on the board of directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors. He is a past member of the Litigation Services Steering Committee of the Texas Society of CPAs and also served on the board of directors for the Turnaround Management Association - Dallas Chapter.
